The unbelievably funny James at War

What can be said about James at War?

I am not really sure how I came across him in the Webiverse, just lucky i guess.

His name is James (obviously) and he hails from Fairbanks , Alaska in the good ole U.S of A. To describe his music i suppose i can best liken him to Weird Al or perhaps Ray Stevens who by the way he states are two of his biggest influences , yet he offers something much different in the form of being able to stay much more current with his unique brand of humor. Recently i had the opportunity to listen to his latest poke at pop culture in the form of Halo 3, a song about letting ones life go to hell in favour of the named game. Personaly I am not a Halo fan ( let the hate mail flow free ) but i , sadly found myself able to relate to some of his lyrics and laugh at myself over them.

What absolutely impresses me about James is his ability to sound convincingly like the artists he spoofs which is no small task to say the least.

Recent songs from James at War include the brilliant “Pop Star” (Nickleback “Rockstar”) , Mr. Homely (Akons “Mr. Lonely”) , Hey Harry Potter ( Plain White T’s ” Hey There Delilah” ) which he swears was forced on him by his wife (lol).

Great work James, unfortunatlely I am not a producer or your work would have been out long ago. But good news is it seems James has an album incoming!

Rated R for Rambo

If you would have asked me two days ago what i thought about the new Rambo movie coming out i would have told you … Meh … yay … a new rambo…

So today I’m surfing the net and come across an interesting site that features not only new Rambo info but its actual Poster , and a 3 minute long promo clip of the movie.

You may be asking “well now you’re opinions changed right?”

actually its not that simple an answer.

As i stated above i was filled with a sense of trepidation when i thought about the possibility of my beloved childhood hero entering back into cinema in a new flick. I wasn’t very encouraged by Stallones last flick Rocky Balboa which kind of dragged on and didn’t give me the feeling that i felt a Rocky movie should. I mean come on what was with that entrance music at the end … we were all waiting for the Rocky theme and you let us down Sly.

Anyways I digress…

So I’m watching this trailer and I’m hit by a feeling of satisfaction , wait a sec maybe this movie is gonna be good! But then the killing started… now don’t get me wrong im a big fan of action and chaos and all good manly stuff but when i saw him punch a guys head off his shoulders an inner voice piped up inside me and said “you have got to be kidding me”.

During the last minute of the trailer i was hit with this feeling over and over again, I was reminded of the Grindhouse movies of old , B-Rated flicks smashed together on very low budgets and shown in groups at theaters so that people feel that they got their monies worth.

It almost made me laugh out loud … which the only reason it didn’t is because my little ones were sleeping and i didn’t want to wake them to their fathers loud laughter , they already think I’m crazy enough.

Information on the movie is limited as its release is sometime between Jan and May but LOL! You just gotta watch the trailer , thanks go to by Alex Billington for the vid.

So basically my interest is piqued , after all is said and done even if this movie blows it aught to be good for some laughs at the very least.

Backing Black Friday sites against a Wal-(Mart)

For those who do not know Black Friday is, to the retail industry, the day after Thanks Giving. The biggest holiday shopping day of the year. People have come to know this as THE day to get the best bargains that are out there from the stores that they love.

Some people look forward to this day all year, prepping lists of “must haves” and eyeballing maps of stores long before the actual date, planing their routs , quickest ways to the limited items they need.Just to show up at 5 am to wait for hours till the targeted store opens its doors and a deadly wave of bodies swarms through the threshold chomping at the bit for that $200 laptop or that $4.99 50 pack DVD-R spindle.

It is truly madness, as anyone who works in retail will surely tell you. I have witnessed it first hand as i worked in retail throughout most of my career. Madness.

Now on to the meat of my issue…

As i sit in my crappy apartment , kids in it’s time for some “me time” ( god i love them turtles from the comcast commercials XD) and surf the net looking at cool stuff i cant afford anyway.Being that retail has been such a large part of my career i type in “Black Friday” just to see whats going on on the wire. INSTANTLY I’m barraged by a page of results. I see Wal-Mart has made the typical splash that is so often its calling card these days.

Heres the root of the matter

Seems Big Blue has made a preemptive jab at consumers by sending them a letter of threat.

QUOTE FROM SOURCE “WalMart is acknowledging that there is a good possibility that their Black Friday advertisement will be leaked and before this happens, they have alerted all Black Friday related sites that we, under no circumstance, can post them before November 19th without risking legal action.”

Seriously Wal-mart.

Now as i have said before , i do not get involved in the B.F evil, as if i want to see the worst of people i need only look to the Internet and not risk my life experiencing it first hand, but this really strikes a Cord with me.

Who cares if it is leaked besides you?

I mean for the consumer this can only end up to be a good thing. Companies comparing the big sale items and trying to top each other right till the end. Whats not to love about that? I mean what do you have to worry about Wal-Mart? Most of your products are garbage quality items that you attain from third world countries and no one else sells them anyways. Brands like Ilo , Mainstays, Dura-Brand ( now there’s a joke name if i ever heard one) and others … the only things you will have to compete with are the big name company items which dont really account for the bulk of your sales now do they?

The way i see it is Wal-Mart is afraid that they will have to actually provide great prices and compete on a level playing field with other major companies.It will be interesting to see if other companies follow suit on the big blues tactics so i can hate them as well.

Joost gotta be kiddin me!

So earlier today I’m trolling around the Blogsphere and i see mention of something called “Joost“.

“What is this strangely named thing you speak of?” You may be asking yourself at this exact moment.

Well Joost ( pronounced - juiced ) is as of now a free program that allows you to interact with its software to watch TV and Internet video much like you would through an actual Television service provider . But here’s the thing . PERSONALLY in my opinion its leaps and bounds BETTER than what your average corporate suits are offering for PAY.

BACKGROUND:

Ever heard of Skype? Sure most people have … the cheap alternative to Ma Bell that provides VOIP services to over 10 Million users around the globe. And perhaps you’ve heard of Kazaa? Especially now after the recent trial of the mom from Minnesota.

Well the two forces behind these revolutionary programs , Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom have been working on Joost for a while now looking to bring the wonders of the Internet together seamlessly with the feel of the T.V interface.

TECH

We’re talking some major deals here as well , with content ranging from the just added entire first season of Transformers Gen 1 to MTV , VH1 programs as well as Paramount Pictures , Cartoon Network and Viacom. See where I’m going here? were talking like 200 channel’s depending on where you live all at your fingertips all for free all the time. Content is delivered in a sort of V.O.D way where you select from a list of available programs shown on a particular channel , click play and off you go! Pause , rewind , fast forward all at your fingertips.

Bandwidth is on a clever work around as well as it is set up as a sort of P2P application using users PCs to seamlessly distribute the amount of bandwidth required. This provides users with a great quality full screen viewing experience with zero hicups that i saw running on my mediocre system. (i.e a system that cant run WoW with settings maxed without having killer frame rate loss). Although to operate this program without a middle of the road graphics card turns out to be a chore (just an FYI).It does work … but you really need an okay platform to jump off from.I used an EVGA Geforce 7300 PCI card in my first test system. On-board Graphics in the second test system.

CONTENT

Content is updated frequently to say the least … i downloaded this program four days ago and 2 days ago almost 30 new channels dropped and tons of new content.

So as you can see their introducing new stuff at a great rate

Joost will always be free with their main source of income coming from targeted adds that you will see in the corners of the screen , Picture spike TVs in show SPIKE adds. Spike is also one of the content providers. These are very un-obtrusive and in a strange way i can see that most of these are entertaining . The software remembers the shows you watch and the adds are given based on your interests. Trust me people i know what your saying and no that doesn’t suck lol.

The way i see things

It has been a long time since i have had that “you gotta be kidding me” feeling when utilizing free ware. Let me just put it to you this way , if you are even remotely interested in the concept you really owe it to yourself to check it out you wont be disappointed.
